Chama New Mexico is pleased to once again have fireworks and festivities for Independence Day, July 4th 2023. Remember, Chama’s Fireworks and 4th of July festivities are always scheduled on the 4th. This year it happens on Tuesday.
The Village of Chama puts on its yearly 4th of July Fireworks show out of Gallegos Park, which is centrally located in town and directly across from the Village Hall. Visitors may park along the length of HWY 17 (NM-17) as long as driveways are unblocked. Live music and Karaoke, a food truck, and some souvenirs for sale will be offered this year across the street from Village Hall from noon to dark. The fireworks display will not start until the train returns between 9:00 and 10:00 PM.
Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad will be running an Independence Day train! Leaving out of our Chama Depot at 3:30 p.m., we’ll take you up to Cumbres Pass, the highest operational railroad pass in America, and return to Chama where you will then enjoy a BBQ dinner, brought to you by Outlaw BBQ company. Enjoy a barbeque dinner of sliced brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, homemade pinto beans, mustard potato salad, and creamy coleslaw. After a delightful dinner, you will enjoy a world-class fireworks display hosted by the Village of Chama from aboard the train. Passengers are then returned by train to the Chama Depot after the fireworks display at approximately 10:00 p.m.
Elevate Chama, Chama’s lovely drive-in Theater will open its gates at 5 pm on July 4th, where you can enjoy music, food, and Vino with New Mexico’s own El Alamo Winery. Food for purchase is provided by Tacos y Mas food truck. Parking is free, but donations will go to Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Help keep the grounds clean and safe, so no outside food or beverages, and no glass, and please keep dogs leashed.
